10 killed in road accident
By Dipti Ranjan Kanungo, Bhubaneswar : At least 10 people were killed and and 25 others injured, five them seriously, – when a mini-truck carrying a marriage party met with an accident near Champaghat under Polsara block in Gajapati district, nearly 300 km from here.
According to police reports, the truck – which was on its way to Chandragiri under R. Udayagari block in the district – collied with roadside trees and then plunged into a ditch as the driver lost control over the wheels. While four people were killed on the spot, six others succumbed to their injuries in hospital, local block development officer Suranjan Satpathy said.
The injured have been rushed to the Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati Hospital, Berhampur.
“We have shifted the critically injured passengers to the MKCG Hospital while others have been sent to the district headquarters hospital, Parlakhemundi. Efforts are being made to identify the deceased and hand over the bodies to their relatives,” Mr Satpathy informed.
